When coatings reduce the strain on the environment

There is less friction and less maintenance when pipes and vessels have been coated by a company as Accoat A/S. This also implies that the consumption of energy is reduced and thereby less emission of CO2.

A good surface treatment externally as internally entails less friction and protection towards a vast range of chemicals and impacts from different temperatures. Evidently this matter involves the discovery of Teflon ®, PTFE back in 1938. Today PTFE and other fluoroplastics are used in virtually all branches of industries and especially the use of surface treatment within the fields of Oil and Gas can lead to energy savings. This is partly due to the fact that the pumping of oil through pipes is more easily facilitated when pipes are internally coated compared to non-treated pipes and partly due to the fact that there is less maintenance when pipes are coated. The effect is energy savings.
-“We can document that in the bigger picture the net sum of energy is actually reduced when using our products” says Managing Director Mr. Niels Uhrbrand from the company Accoat A/S.
He wants to jog the more habitual mindset linked to the Bright Green exhibition in December when the subject matter is the possibilities of energy savings.
- “We should get away form the thought that just because it works it is okay” says Mr. Niels Uhrbrand.
He points to the fact that when e.g. oil is drawn up through pipes there is a difference between coated and non-coated pipes. Also the fluoroplastic treatment prolongs the lifespan of the coated items rendering the items economically profitable.
The coating market develops rapidly and therefore Accoat is involved in different scientific projects where some is supported by official Danish technology funding.
“I warmly recommend other companies to involve themselves on different scientific projects as they are very rewarding and they constantly broaden ones mind” says Mr. Niels Uhrbrand.
