Accoat's biggest ever job
Haldor Topsøe presented a project to Accoat, but it was a project with unheard proportions.

In 2007 Haldor Topsøe presented Accoat with a coating project of previously unheard of proportions. A tank 3,4 meters in diameter and 3 meters tall, with a surface area of 27 m² needed an Accotron coating in order to protect it from warm, concentrated sulphuric acid.
To do the job a minimum coating thickness of 500 µm was required, and that meant re-coating the tank several times.
During the project planning process, Accoat had to ask Topsøe whether the customer would accept a small alteration to the tank’s construction as otherwise it would be too wide to fit Accoat’s largest oven.
That wasn’t the only difficulty to be overcome, however.
The sand blaster had to be adjusted and our in-house tooling department had to construct new handling equipment. Everything had to be strengthened because even the toughest equipment wasn't up to the job.
To our immense satisfaction everything went like clockwork, and without having to use too many shoehorns we squeezed the tank into the coating area.
The actual job of coating the tank was difficult in itself, but an outstanding team effort from our coating staff ensured that everything went according to plan. With the last few jobs done, the tank is now finished and ready for transport to a location many miles from Kvistgård.
It’s a great satisfaction to see that we can make the impossible possible.
